Sue and Aaron Bullock
In 1997, Sue and Alan Bullock purchased 82 acres in Rome PA, nestled in the beautiful Endless Mountains. They started out with a sheep and maple sugaring operation, marketing direct to the consumer. In 2000, Sue and Alan expanded to include produce, cattle and chickens for egg production. A year later, chickens and turkey for meat were added along with an on-farm processing facility. The various products were marketed direct through farmers markets, restaurants and retail stores. Alan passed away in 2007, and Sue, determined to keep Back Achers Farm viable, set out to add a meat and vegetable CSA program. The following year Aaron decided to leave college and join the endeavor. They have since become partners and presently operate the farm together.
The 100% grass-fed beef herd and sheep flock are both rotationally grazed. There are 200 pasture raised, organic fed chickens for eggs. Annually Sue and Aaron raise 600 broiler chickens and approximately 100 turkeys all 100% organic fed, pasture raised and processed on farm. The farm includes a 1300 tap maple operation and an onsite farm store that features local organic foods in addition to their own farm grown products.
