Our Eggs are produced by healthy, happy hens that are free to roam our clean pastures from a movable chicken-mobile. The chicken-mobile is moved every three days to a fresh grass. The chickens spend their days outside in the fresh air and sunlight. At night they roost inside the chicken-mobile and are protected from predators. The chickens receive many vitamins and minerals from foraging in the pastures. They are fed only certified organic feed and fresh, clean water. The eggs are collected several times a day to maintain freshness and cleanliness. Eggs are large and brown with dark yellow yolks filled with goodness.
Our Broilers are also raised on pasture in bottomless shelters that are moved twice a daily onto fresh, clean grass. There are only 40 birds in a 9'x12' shelter, so they have lots of room to run. Half of the shelter is covered with a tarp to give them shade from the sun. The rest of the shelter is covered with mesh to protect the birds from predators. Fed only certified organic feed, with full access to vegetative grass, they are eating food which is most in harmony with their digestive systems. This method naturally produces healthier meat that is dense, tender, juicy and has a wonderful flavor.
Our Maple products are produced here on the farm at our sugarhouse, using only natural sap from our 1300 sugar maple trees and an old fashioned wood fired evaporator. Maple season usually starts in mid February and lasts only 4 to 6 weeks. Making high quality syrup is a serious endeavor and hard work. It takes 40-60 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of maple syrup. Pennsylvania produces some of the best tasting, pure maple syrup in the world. We at Back Achers Farm believe that quality is very important. Our maple syrup is available at the Farm Store, Farmers Market or by mail order.
Our Produce is grown from quality seeds in soil that is free from pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizer. The plants are fertilized with our own compost made right here on the farm. The compost is made from our own plant matter as well as manure from our own animals who are also free from chemicals and drugs and fed only organic feed.
We use bio dynamic practices in our market gardens and have added a large, high tunnel to supplement the hoop houses. The high tunnel is double-insulated and further extends our growing season for greens.
Produce is available seasonally at Broome County Regional Farmers Market in Binghamton NY, Hillside Park Farmers market in Clarks Summit PA and of course at the Back Achers Farm Store.
Our Animals are ethically raised, totally drug free, without chemical additives, animal by-products, hormones, irradiation or dyes. Our Lamb and Beef are 100% grass fed. Our Pork is pastured on clean grass as well as fed certified organic feed.
